Short answer: in October 2026 most renters in Tashkent are best served by one of four cars: a Chevrolet Onix or Monza for city days (from 500,000 UZS per day), a Tesla Model Y or BYD Han if you want an electric car (1,400,000–1,500,000 UZS), a Kia Carnival for a family or a group (1,300,000 UZS), and a Toyota Land Cruiser 200 or Highlander for trips out of town (1,800,000–2,000,000 UZS). Below you will find the numbers behind this advice: weather, what Uzbekistan is actually buying this autumn, and what each choice costs per day and per week.
What October weather means for your car choice
October is one of the easiest months for driving in Uzbekistan. According to weather2travel, Tashkent has a daytime high of about 21°C and a night low of about 8°C in October. Rain is light: 44 mm for the whole month, spread over about 6 days. You get roughly 11 hours of daylight and about 7 hours of sun per day.
What this changes in practice:
- You do not need air conditioning to be the main feature of the car, as in July. Comfort, space and driver-assist systems matter more.
- Mornings and evenings are cool, so a good climate system is still useful.
- Days are short. The Government of Canada’s travel advice for Uzbekistan recommends avoiding driving at night, and with about 11 hours of daylight a Samarkand trip should start early.
- Mountains are colder. Rough Guides gives about 15°C by day and 3°C at night for Chimgan and Nuratau. Pack warm clothes if you plan to go up.
What Uzbekistan is buying right now
Rental demand follows what people see on the road. Here are the latest numbers we could verify:
- In August 2026, new car sales in Uzbekistan were 37,798 cars, down 17.2% from August 2025. From January to August the total was 248,711 cars, down 5.9% (Best Selling Cars Blog).
- Chevrolet still holds 73.8% of the market. BYD is second with about 11%, and Kia is third with 7.2%.
- In the first quarter of 2026 the top sellers were the Chevrolet Cobalt (23,993), Tracker (11,102) and Onix (10,396), followed by the Kia Sonet (5,596) and BYD Song Plus (2,838), according to the Uzbekistan Automobile Business Association.
- Electric cars are the fastest growing group. On 1 July 2026 Uzbekistan had 122,700 registered EVs, compared with 73,600 a year earlier, a rise of about 67% (National Statistics Committee). Tashkent city has 88,496 of them, which is about 72% of the country.
- In the first half of 2026 Uzbekistan imported 37,874 EVs worth 447.7 million US dollars, 2.6 times more than in the same months of 2025.
What this means for a visitor: Chevrolet cars are everywhere, so a rental Onix or Tracker will not stand out, and parts and service are easy to find. At the same time, about one in nine new cars sold in August was a BYD, and Tashkent is the main EV city. If you want to try an electric car, October is a good moment: cool air is easy on the battery and you do not need heavy air conditioning.
Which car for which trip
A work week in Tashkent
If you come for meetings, October is busy. MiningMetals Uzbekistan, a mining and metallurgy exhibition, runs on 27–29 October 2026 at Uzexpocentre, and several more trade shows follow on 10–12 November (Machinery Central Asia, TransLogistica Uzbekistan and others). A car with a fixed daily price makes a busy schedule easier to plan.
For business days we suggest Mercedes-Benz W213 E200 at 2,000,000 UZS per day or BMW G30 530i at 2,500,000 UZS. For a guest who must arrive in style, the Mercedes-Benz W223 S500 costs 5,000,000 UZS per day. If you have a group of delegates, a Kia Carnival High Limousine at 1,800,000 UZS is the practical choice. We can also add a driver: the driver service in Tashkent starts at 300,000 UZS.
Families and groups
The Kia Carnival (1,300,000 UZS per day) and the Toyota Alphard (2,000,000 UZS) are the two roomy people movers for airport pickups and city tours (the minimum driver age for minivans is 25). For a smaller family the Chevrolet Traverse at 1,600,000 UZS has a large trunk. Child seats are available on request; tell the manager when you book.
An electric car for the first time
The Tesla Model Y costs 1,500,000 UZS per day, and the BYD Han costs 1,400,000 UZS. The Leapmotor C16 at 1,400,000 UZS is a larger crossover that, according to its maker’s specifications, can have up to six seats. For more comfort and range, look at the Zeekr 001 at 2,500,000 UZS. A practical note: plan charging before you plan the route, and remember that long trips outside Tashkent need a stop at a charger.
The cheapest sensible option
If you only need to move around the city, a Chevrolet Gentra costs 450,000 UZS per day, and the Chevrolet Onix or Monza costs 500,000 UZS. These are the same cars that top the sales charts, so any service station knows them.
An autumn trip out of Tashkent
Autumn is a popular time for Samarkand, Bukhara and the mountains. Rough Guides notes that October is busy for hotels, so book rooms early. Samarkand is about 300 km from Tashkent, so for a two-day trip an SUV with a soft ride makes a difference: the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 costs 2,000,000 UZS per day, the Toyota Highlander costs 1,800,000 UZS, and the Chevrolet Tahoe costs 2,500,000 UZS. Remember the mileage limit described below.

How a longer rental changes the price
Orient Rent Car gives a discount for longer terms: 0% for 1–5 days, 10% for 6–20 days, 15% for 21–29 days and 25% for 30 days or more. Example: a Chevrolet Onix for 7 days is 3,500,000 UZS, and with the 10% discount it becomes 3,150,000 UZS. A Tesla Model Y for 7 days is 10,500,000 UZS, and with the discount it becomes 9,450,000 UZS. You can check your own dates in the cost calculator on the home page.
Three rules to remember in October
- Mileage. The daily limit is 200 km. Extra kilometres cost 2,000 UZS per km for Chevrolet, 3,000 UZS for most foreign cars and 5,000 UZS for the Mercedes G-Class. A Tashkent–Samarkand return trip is about 600 km, so count the extra cost before you choose the car.
- Documents. You need a passport and a valid driving licence with at least 3 years of experience. The minimum age is 22 for Standard class and 25 for premium cars and minivans.
- Borders. You cannot take the car out of Uzbekistan. Trips outside Tashkent are allowed, and for other regions we confirm the details with you in advance.
