Short answer: before you sign a car rental contract in Tashkent, check twelve things: who may drive (age, experience, documents), whether your foreign licence is accepted, what the price includes, the deposit, the daily mileage limit, the fuel rule, insurance and accident steps, who pays traffic fines, where you may drive, the car’s condition at pickup, the return rules, and whether everything is written in the contract. This guide explains each point with the real conditions we use at Orient Rent Car and the market ranges we found in October 2026.
1. Who can rent: age, experience and documents
At Orient Rent Car you need a passport, a valid driving licence and at least 3 years of driving experience. The minimum age is 22 for Standard class cars and 25 for premium cars and minivans.
These rules differ from company to company. In the Tashkent rental offers we compared in October 2026, minimum age was between 22 and 24 and required experience was between 2 and 4 years. If you are 22–24 or have 2 years behind the wheel, ask before you choose a car, because the answer can change which companies you can use.
2. Foreign driving licence and International Driving Permit
If you are a visitor, carry your original national licence together with an International Driving Permit (IDP). A photocopy is not accepted at a roadside check. Which IDP format is accepted depends on the convention your own country has signed, and sources are not fully consistent on this, so the safest step is to ask the rental company in writing which format it accepts before you fly. Also keep your passport with you: police do check documents on the road.
If you stay in Uzbekistan for more than 3 days, you must be registered. Hotels normally do this at check-in. Ask for the registration slip and keep it, because it can be requested when you leave or at a police stop.
3. What the price includes and what you pay separately
At Orient Rent Car the price covers the use of the car for the chosen period and technical support for the whole rental. You pay separately for fuel, traffic fines, kilometres over the limit, and extra services such as delivery or a driver.
| Item | Orient Rent Car |
|---|---|
| Minimum / maximum rental | 1 day / no maximum |
| Delivery in Tashkent | 100,000 UZS to any address |
| Airport delivery and return | Available, details from the manager |
| Driver | From 300,000 UZS in Tashkent |
| Child seat | On request when booking |
| Rental for companies | Yes, terms by agreement |
4. Deposit: how much and when it comes back
A deposit is taken for every rental, and its amount depends on the car’s brand and class. At Orient Rent Car it is returned within 7 working days after you return the car and we check its condition. Companies set this differently. One Tashkent operator we checked fixes the deposit at the equivalent of 500 US dollars for all cars, and others publish the amount only in a price list. Ask three things: how much, in which form (card hold or cash), and in how many days it returns.
5. Mileage limit
At Orient Rent Car the limit is 200 km per day. Extra kilometres cost 2,000 UZS for Chevrolet, 3,000 UZS for foreign cars and 5,000 UZS for the Mercedes G-Class. In the market we saw limits from 200 km to 300 km per day and at least one company with unlimited mileage, so compare the limit together with the price. Example: a Tashkent–Samarkand return trip is about 600 km. For a foreign car with a 200 km daily limit, a two-day trip means about 200 km over the limit if the limit is counted over both days, which is about 600,000 UZS extra. Ask the manager how the limit is counted over several days.
6. Fuel and charging
Return the car with the same fuel level you received it with. If the tank is lower, you pay the difference. Take a photo of the dashboard at pickup so that both sides see the same level. If you rent an electric car, ask what battery percentage to return it with and which charger types and cables come with the car.
7. Insurance and what to do after an accident
Insurance conditions are the point where rental companies differ most, so ask for them in writing: what is covered, what is not, and what you pay in case of damage. At Orient Rent Car, insurance details are explained by the manager during booking. If there is an accident, call the company at once. Our staff come to the place and help to settle the situation. Save these numbers: police 102, ambulance 103, fire 101.
8. Traffic fines and cameras
Under Orient Rent Car rules, all fines for traffic violations are paid by the renter. Uzbekistan has many road cameras, especially in Tashkent, and a fine goes to the owner of the car, who will pass it on to you. Since 1 September 2026 one basic calculated value (BRV) is 440,000 UZS, and fines are counted in BRV. Examples from published fine tables, October 2026:
| Violation | Fine |
|---|---|
| Seat belt not fastened | 220,000 UZS |
| Phone in hand while driving | 1,320,000 UZS |
| Speeding by up to 20 km/h | 440,000 UZS |
| Speeding by 20–40 km/h | 2,200,000 UZS |
| Speeding by more than 40 km/h | from 3,960,000 UZS |
| Stopping or parking in a wrong place | 880,000 UZS |
| No first-aid kit or warning triangle | 220,000 UZS |
Published tables do not always agree on single lines, so treat the numbers as a guide. Speed limits are 60 km/h in cities, 20 km/h in residential courtyards, and 100 km/h on motorways (90 km/h on many ordinary roads), and lower near schools and kindergartens. The alcohol limit is 0.03%, which in practice means do not drink at all. Seat belts are required for all passengers, front and rear.
9. Where you may drive
Driving outside Tashkent is possible. Mountain areas are allowed, and trips to other regions are agreed in advance. For some cars, special terms may apply. Taking the car out of Uzbekistan is strictly forbidden. Smoking in the car is forbidden. Out of town, keep the tank above half and avoid driving at night, because rural roads can have potholes and poor lighting.
10. Inspect the car when you pick it up
Spend ten minutes at pickup. It protects both sides.
- Record a video of all sides of the car, the roof, the wheels, the glass and the interior. Note every scratch on the paper form.
- Photograph the odometer and the fuel or battery level.
- Check the tyres. The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm. Look at the spare wheel too.
- Check that the lights, wipers, air conditioning and brakes work.
- Ask to see the vehicle registration certificate and the compulsory insurance (OSAGO) policy. Driving without OSAGO is a fine of 440,000 UZS.
- Make sure the first-aid kit and warning triangle are in the car.
11. Return, early return and extension
You can return the car in a different place if the manager agrees. You can return it earlier, but the money for unused days is not refunded. To extend the rental, contact the manager in advance, because the car may be booked after your dates. At Orient Rent Car you can pick up and return cars at two offices: Afrosiyob street 39 (Mirabad district) and Ikhtikhor street 1 (Yunusabad district).
